The impact of public reforms on the productivity of the Spanish ports: a parametric distance function approach

    Get PDF
This paper tries to analyse the evolution of total factor productivity and its decomposition between 1986 and 2005 in the Spanish port authorities using a parametric distance function approach. Panel data for different outputs and inputs for the last 20 years have been constructed. During this period, the Spanish port authorities suffered three important regulatory changes. The results show that technical progress and scale efficiency gains contributed to improve total factor productivity whereas pure technical efficiency affected negatively. The change in the model of port management from a service port model to a landlord port model, the adoption of certain technologies and the possible existence of overcapacity caused by an increasing port competition, could explain these results

Neuromarketing, consumer neuroscience and neuroaesthetics are a broad research area of neuroscience with an extensive background in scientific publications. Thus, the present study aims to identify the highly cited papers (HCPs) in this research field, to deliver a summary of the academic work produced during the last decade in this area, and to show patterns, features, and trends that define the past, present, and future of this specific area of knowledge. The HCPs show a perspective of those documents that, historically, have attracted great interest from a research community and that could be considered as the basis of the research field. In this study, we retrieved 907 documents and analyzed, through H-Classics methodology, 50 HCPs identified in the Web of Science (WoS) during the period 2010–2019. The H-Classic approach offers an objective method to identify core knowledge in neuroscience disciplines such as neuromarketing, consumer neuroscience, and neuroaesthetics. To accomplish this study, we used Bibliometrix R Package and SciMAT software. This analysis provides results that give us a useful insight into the development of this field of research, revealing those scientific actors who have made the greatest contribution to its development: authors, institutions, sources, countries as well as documents and references.Programa Operativo FEDER Andalucía 2014–2020 under Grant UMA 18-FEDERJA-14

Opinion mining and sentiment analysis has become ubiquitous in our society, with applications in online searching, computer vision, image understanding, artificial intelligence and marketing communications (MarCom). Within this context, opinion mining and sentiment analysis in marketing communications (OMSAMC) has a strong role in the development of the field by allowing us to understand whether people are satisfied or dissatisfied with our service or product in order to subsequently analyze the strengths and weaknesses of those consumer experiences. To the best of our knowledge, there is no science mapping analysis covering the research about opinion mining and sentiment analysis in the MarCom ecosystem. In this study, we perform a science mapping analysis on the OMSAMC research, in order to provide an overview of the scientific work during the last two decades in this interdisciplinary area and to show trends that could be the basis for future developments in the field. This study was carried out using VOSviewer, CitNetExplorer and InCites based on results from Web of Science (WoS). The results of this analysis show the evolution of the field, by highlighting the most notable authors, institutions, keywords, publications, countries, categories and journals. The research was funded by Programa Operativo FEDER Andalucía 2014‐2020, grant number “La reputación de las organizaciones en una sociedad digital. Open Science (OS) has been rapidly evolving in recent years, but there is still work to be done to return Science to researchers and citizens who pay for it. Technological advancements have enabled Open Science to transform the way scientific research is conducted, facilitating collaboration and innovation among researchers. As a result, OS is expected to play an increasingly important role in scientific research and innovation in the years to come, driving discoveries and advancements in various fields. However, OS also poses challenges, including the potential for bias and discrimination in research. This chapter explores the challenges that need to be addressed to fully implement OS globally, outlining the barriers that need to be overcome and describing the complexity of the changes that come with this new research approach. Additionally, the chapter discusses the impact of Artificial Intelligence on addressing these challenges, while also creating new ones

Treball Final de Grau en Medicina. Codi: MD1158. Curs acadèmic: 2017/2018Rhinitis and allergic asthma are two very prevalent diseases in our environment, affecting 23% and 10% respectively, but there are few researches using the SPRINT-15 and MiniAQLQ questionnaires. The main objective of this work was to determine the quality of life in patients diagnosed with rhinoconjunctivitis and/or allergic asthma by applying the aforementioned questionnaires, in a group with basic pharmacological treatment and in another with pharmacological treatment plus specific allergen immunotherapy. In this way, its relationship with the quality of life, with the clinic and with the immunological characteristics has been valued. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and comparative study was performed, finding statistically significant differences in the group of allergic rhinitis with respect to rhinoconjunctivitis (p = 0.009) and immunotherapy (p = 0.002). In the group with allergic asthma, only a relation with rhinoconjunctivitis (p = 0.004) was found. In conclusion, a great improvement in the quality of life was observed in patients treated with immunotherapy for the group with rhinitis. On the other hand, in the group with asthma, the quality of life was superior to the group with rhinitis regardless of the immunotherapeutic treatment. Both groups were negatively influenced in the quality of life by rhinoconjunctivitis.

ABSTRACT. This paper tries to assess the possible existence of excess of capacity for the Spanish port infrastructures. In order to do this, we estimate a cost function system considering the existence of demand uncertainty of cargo and passengers for port authorities. We find that, in order to fulfil the regularity conditions of the cost function system, we have to specify both demands as uncertain. The results show the importance of passenger variability in terms of demand of variable inputs and the use of quasi-fixed input. We also demonstrate the excess of capacity from the calculation of the shadow price of the quasi-fixed input after controlling demand uncertainty. Finally, some factors as the size of the port authorities’ hinterland, the relative specialization in containerised general cargo or passengers, the size of ports, the profitability rate or port regulation are considered as determinants of this excess of capacity.RESUMEN.

Review of Curie point depth determination through different spectral methods applied to magnetic data

Anatomy, histochemistry, and imunohistochemistry of the olfactory subsystems in mice

The four regions of the murine nasal cavity featuring olfactory neurons were studied anatomically and by labeling with lectins and relevant antibodies with a view to establishing criteria for the identification of olfactory subsystems that are readily applicable to other mammals. In the main olfactory epithelium and the septal organ the olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) are embedded in quasi-stratified columnar epithelium; vomeronasal OSNs are embedded in epithelium lining the medial interior wall of the vomeronasal duct and do not make contact with the mucosa of the main nasal cavity; and in Grüneberg’s ganglion a small isolated population of OSNs lies adjacent to, but not within, the epithelium. With the exception of Grüneberg’s ganglion, all the tissues expressing olfactory marker protein (OMP) (the above four nasal territories, the vomeronasal and main olfactory nerves, and the main and accessory olfactory bulbs) are also labeled by Lycopersicum esculentum agglutinin, while Ulex europaeus agglutinin I labels all and only tissues expressing Gαi2 (the apical sensory neurons of the vomeronasal organ, their axons, and their glomerular destinations in the anterior accessory olfactory bulb). These staining patterns of UEA-I and LEA may facilitate the characterization of olfactory anatomy in other species. A 710-sPrivate financial support is gratefully acknowledgedS
